Joseph A. Maierle Inducted into the
Montana Professional Engineers Hall of Fame
Joseph A. Maierle, P.E., L.S., (1905-2002) co-founder of Morrison-Maierle, Inc. was inducted into the Montana Professional Engineers Hall of Fame at the annual Joint Engineers meeting in Helena, Montana. The Montana Society of Engineers sponsors the Montana Professional Engineers Hall of Fame to honor engineers who have made significant contributions to the development of Montana and the engineering profession. A plaque highlighting Joe’s contributions to the state of Montana and engineering will be permanently displayed at Montana State University’s College of Engineering, alongside the plaque honoring Joe’s colleague, friend and business partner, John H. Morrison, Sr., P.E., L.S., who was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2002.

International Correspondence School, B.S. Degree, Civil Engineering, 1930
• Bridge designer and structural draftsman for Montana Department of Transportation, 1930-1945; During the 1930’s he worked on construction of Montana’s primary highway system, including U.S. Highway 2 and U.S. Highway 10; He described his work as, “…getting the state out of the mud.”
• Joined with John Morrison and founded Morrison-Maierle, Inc. in 1945
• Served as Director of the Engineering Division of the American Road Builders Association, 1966
• Active member of American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC); American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE); National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE); Montana Society of Engineers (MSE)
• Received Citizen of the Year Award from the Helena Kiwanis Club, 1968 and from the Helena Association of Realtors, 1974
• Honorary Doctorate; Carroll College, 1967; Served as Chairman of the Carroll College Foundation Board of Directors; Served as a member of the Carroll College Board of Trustees for 13 years; Following his service, he was elected as Trustee Emeritus, 1981
• Assisted Carroll College in the development of the 3-2 engineering program wherein engineering students attended Carroll College for 3 years and an engineering college for 2 years; Carroll College later became an ABET accredited school offering degrees in civil engineering
• Respected engineer and leader in the fields of highway engineering, bridge engineering, structural engineering, municipal engineering and surveying in Montana, Wyoming, Idaho and Utah
• A true engineer, an astute businessman and always a gentleman; He embodied the values upon which Morrison-Maierle, Inc. was founded: integrity, commitment and partnership
